Parent Partnerships

My name is Kirsty and I have worked at Lavender Farm Nursery for 12 years.

For the past 8 years I have had the pleasure of full filling the Parent Partnership Co-ordinator role. Working in partnership with parents is paramount to children’s learning and development. Lavender Farm Nursery prides itself on the collaborative approach between parent and setting on a child’s learning and development. We believe that it is important to form a bond with both the child and parent.

Each child is allocated a key carer. They will have the knowledge and understanding on how children learn and develop and will have the unique understanding of what your child’s current interests and needs are. We have a large staff team at Lavender Farm and all staff are very knowledgeable and flexible within our nursery.

We have a Parent app called “Our schools app” all our parents can access this and can view our policies and news updates. We also have parent boards around the nursery on both the ground and first floor to keep parents advised on events and also display each rooms planning and provide a copy for parents to take home. Parents can also contribute “WOW” moments to share with nursery.

In 2010 we implemented Home visits at Lavender Farm. Home visits are offered to all new families. Home Visits help to begin forming the relationship between parents, practitioners and children; it is also starts the process of sharing information. Home visits are also beneficial as parents and children are more relaxed in their own home also giving staff the opportunity to see the child in their own home environment which will help the settling- in process into our setting. Parents will also have time to talk on a one-to-one basis, develop and build trust in a more relaxed environment and ask any further questions.  A prospectus will be provided if needed.

We take pride in organising different events throughout the year getting all parents and carers involved and into our setting.

The staff and management at lavender farm nursery value a high quality equal partnership with parents this includes:

  • A common aim
  • Working together
  • Sharing responsibility
  • Complementary expertise
  • mutual respect
  • Open, two way communication
  • Negotiation
